One of the ways our group can help in improving the mental and physical health of our community is to participate in studies about those areas of life. Recently, we received a request for participants in a study from a graduate student at McGill University. We hope that some of you will help her in her study. Here is a copy of her email request to us.
Hello,
My name is Kate and I am a graduate student at McGill University. I'm not sure if this is something you could help me with, so if not I apologize, but I am looking to recruit men aged 50 and above with type 1 or 2 diabetes to participate in a research project. I was hoping you could pass this message along to the members of the Esquimalt Men's Shed along with my contact information. I’m reaching out because I know Men’s Sheds are passionate about supporting men’s health and wellbeing, and I think this project aligns really well with that focus.
We are developing a bone health program for older adults with diabetes that will include exercise and education. The overall goal of the program is to strengthen bones and prevent fractures in people living with diabetes. We are looking for input from men living with diabetes to make sure the program is relevant and meaningful. Participation would involve attending 3 group meetings (one hour each) over the course of a few months to help us design this program. The meetings are held online so there is no need to travel. My email is kathryn.crosby@mail.mcgill.ca if anyone is interested.
Thank you for your time and I hope you have a great day!
Kate Crosby
We had a table at the CFB Esquimalt Formation Fun Day on Saturday, September 6, 2025. Many visitors stopped by to learn about our organisation and try out the lapidary and wood carving activities.
